Helen Lin is a remarkable, multi-talented artist whose works we are privileged to have in our home.
In our dining room hangs a framed red papercut of a figure, a mythical goddess, perhaps, who seems to fly through the air with elegant grace. In a hall hangs a dramatic papercut of a pig Ms Lin created in 2007, an especially auspicious year as it marked the year of the Golden Pig, which occurs every 60 years.
From the fixture over our kitchen table hang a set of imagined flying red fish and pagodas just below a set of paper foldings of Chinese zodiac figures. We use these to decorate our table on special family occasions. When our grandchildren visit, they like to make up stories about the different animals.
In our bedroom is a paper "tearing" of impressionistic flowers, an exquisite rendering that reflects Helen's truly imaginative ideas.
Our office is home to our latest acquisition, a calligraphic work that Ms Lin and her husband, Ying Lin, a renowned calligrapher, created together.
My husband and I look forward to owning future works by Ms Lin, to add them to the other artists we collect. What draws us to Helen Lin is her imaginative use of materials and color, the delicacy of her work and how she combines that "lightness" with the colors she employs. We respect her versatility, her work in photography, collage, paper-cutting and the often unexpected ways she uses her talents.
