Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County
Dear Mrs. Lin,
Each year the arrival of your gifts, the assembling of the tree and the sense of satisfaction when completed, are cherished rewards for the effort required to make the tree a reality. This year was no exception and with a new location and added attention the tree has received make OHT'97 a very special occasion. Thank you for the time and energy you gave. Your package and it's contents were much appreciated and because of you we have achieved our largest ever response for ornaments to hang from the tree. A record number of counties, states, cities and towns are represented through contributions such as yours and the pride Charlotteans feel in knowing so many people care enough to respond cannot be described.
On Dec 3 at 10:30am the lights on the tree were officially turned on and a gathering of school children, representatives of both the library and the airport along with local origami members assembled for the ceremony. Afterward refreshments were served and some informal folding with kids and officials took place before the function was over. Already the comments of travelers passing by the tree were providing additional gems of inspiration as to how meaningful this tree is to the community.
The tree will remain on view at the airport until January 5, and if you or your friends are passing through Charlotte/Doughlas International Airport between now and then you will find the creation you are part of next to the duty free store at the end of concourse D. Visitors by automobile may receive a complimentary parking pass from the information desk on the upper level. Due to staff shortages the library has not been able to get pictures of the tree on the Internet.
Again on behalf of the library I thank you for your kindness and willingness to help. it is much appreciated.
Sincerely, Jonathan Baxter
Coordinator OHT'97
